One of our Good neighbors recently asked me MY opinion about Gsatric Bypass Surgery ( GBS ).
I had GBS performed on 1-11-11. have since lost 114lbs give or take a lb or two from day to day. ( I don't "sweat the small stuff" ! ) ike other people that I have taked to re: their surgeries - I have only one regret : " ... that I didn't do it sooner ! "
I had Roux N Y Surgery via laproscopy method. When it was all over, I had 2 small slits on my stmach area. I had the surgery mainly bec of my High blood pressure. I had been transported by ambulance to the hospital with 225/124. The day of my surgery, my BP = 199/99.
Ordinarily, my BP runs from 120/80 - 134/90. Today I had it taken ... It was 188/88 bec I am sproting a gnerealized body infection known as a Urinary Tract Infection ( UTI ) and it plays havoc with my body !
( So, though it can definitely improve your health to have GBS, it doesn't guarantee total good health. I happen to be a carrier for urinary bacteria and have had a running problem with it all during the 8 pregnancies I experienced. UTI has palgued me for decades! )
But GBS has alleviated so many other health problems that I once experienced but no longer am bothered by. Besides, now I look really CUTE & love. love, LOVE my clothes again !!

I had decided against getting Lap Band Surgery. I knew it would be too easy to gain more weight back that way and had heard too many stories about slippage, re-surgeries for adjustments and band failure. As a matter of fact, when I first arrived for my surgery, my room mate reported she was having her 3rd Lap Band installed.
I, too, had complicaations with my surgery ... more about that later. But I would do it ( GBS ) & over again!
My advice, use an experienced surgeon, one you know OTHERS had positive results with. I wish I had "shadowed" someone else pehaps I wouldnt have had to deal with my complications.
But, please, add your experiences & opinions below as I promised our Good Neighbor that I would make this post so others could respond to their concerns and tell of their very own experiences those of friends & relatives!

Like NDY I decided against Lap Band Surgery because I knew it would not work for me...it is too easy to cheat and even though you think that you won't....a life time of bad habits does not just go away. My partner in life Dan, had the lap band surgery and I knew that it would never work for me.
Again like NDY, if you are going this route make sure your surgeon has a LOT of experience..this is no surgery to hand to a novice. I had no complications due to the surgery, other than my tastes changing and having a hard time finding foods I could eat. I have no regrets...other than wishing I'd had the surgery 20 years earlier.
Both of my knees are shot, but I can walk now, and I go to the gym...in the past I could not have done that. I was on three blood pressure medicines and now I'm off of them....I had diabetes, now my A1C is 49....it means no medications and my doctors are thrilled...it's like the diabetes went away...of course they don't know if it did....but it's not affecting my health anymore. Before this surgery I was barely alive...I'd had pneumonia three times in less than two years, I was told I was breathing like I was 80 years old, and I was 54 (and I never smoked in my life)...I could barely walk, and I had to watch everyone else have a life. Now I can join in and participate, and not sit on the sidelines. This surgery gave me back my life
