So, I live A HUD (Housing Urban Development) building... A senior/ disabled housing, right? You know, government rent controlled building for low income, section #8 housing...
I founded a Christian prayer group called Christian Coffee Hour against the manager's wishes apparently.. Last year (2014) a kind pardon at church left a DVD wide screen version of "The Passion of Christ" on The Book of Intentions at my Roman Catholic Church. I was so happy. I couldn't wait to play it for my group aand anyone else who wanted to watch it on our big screen tv in our Community Living room at our apartment building...
BUT- That was not to be because when I asked my manager i f I could shown it on Good Friday that Easter weekend, she said, " Absolutely NOT- it's religious & discriminatory!" But, I couldn't play it in my apartment because I don't OWN a tv...

If there is no written rule though, then it may well just be a matter of the building manager taking personal umbrage with the situation or they are concerned that non-Christian residents would take umbrage with the favoritism toward allowing your group to watch a religious-based film in that community room. Even without a written rule, religion in general is a hot-button issue and you never know who within the community could take offense with something you find no problem with because it favors your religion. No one religion should be given a free pass over any other religion or even those who do not support a religion at all, so it could just be the building manager doesn't want to cause problems among residents who feel their own beliefs are being slighted or offended.
Unfortunately for you, it is not the building manager's concern that you do not have a tv to watch a movie on, so that isn't even an argument that will get you anywhere. Perhaps someone else within your group does own a tv and would be willing to invite the rest of the group into their apartment to watch the movie? That could solve your problem without having to cause a bigger stir. Sometimes it's easier to put on slippers than to carpet the world, you know...
