Does your building have specific rules regarding the use of the community living room that state what the room can and cannot be used for? If so, is there anything within those rules that denotes anything regarding religious materials in any way? If the rules specifically state that the room cannot be used in any way to disseminate any religious material then you would have an uphill battle in fighting to watch a movie in there that depicts religious symbolism and/or religious stories. I do wonder though, if there is such a rule why you would even be allowed to run a religious-based group in the room at all, because that could be seen as going against the rules as well if you are actively openly praying and/or reading the Bible aloud or anything of that nature.

If there is no written rule though, then it may well just be a matter of the building manager taking personal umbrage with the situation or they are concerned that non-Christian residents would take umbrage with the favoritism toward allowing your group to watch a religious-based film in that community room. Even without a written rule, religion in general is a hot-button issue and you never know who within the community could take offense with something you find no problem with because it favors your religion. No one religion should be given a free pass over any other religion or even those who do not support a religion at all, so it could just be the building manager doesn't want to cause problems among residents who feel their own beliefs are being slighted or offended.

Unfortunately for you, it is not the building manager's concern that you do not have a tv to watch a movie on, so that isn't even an argument that will get you anywhere. Perhaps someone else within your group does own a tv and would be willing to invite the rest of the group into their apartment to watch the movie? That could solve your problem without having to cause a bigger stir. Sometimes it's easier to put on slippers than to carpet the world, you know...

There is nothing on/in the lease. Nothing written that she can show me apparently because when I confronted her about it. I told her I would need a copy of it to take with me to our state supreme court "cause that's how far I'll take it to appeal my right to practice freedom of religion!" That was last year. We are about to have our 123rd meeting this coming Tuesday & are in our third year.

Also, now that I am nearly certified as volunteer, community-at-large social minister with our local Catholic diocese, I am going to be having some activities in my own apartment. I want to get a 52" Smart TV & stream some faith formation & Spirit filled DVDs as well as show Christian movies & have a bi monthly book club in my role as a facilitator.. As my manager remarked, "I don't care what you do in your own apartment!" And, since I am forbidden to have my own business (more civil rights abuse in my opinion) they will be all private gatherings by invitation though I plan on a public announcement to interest people. I can't announce anything in my building, however, as she calls that "solicitation" though nothing is being sold and/or profited (more infringement in my personalvrites, as far as I am concerned!)....

I forgot to mention, also, Christian Coffee Hour, or CCH as it is listed on our monthly calendar IS an ecumenical group
Furthermore, for reasons of deaths, hospitalizations, & rehabilitation stays, I am presently one of the ONLY two active Catholic member attending on a regular weekly basis. Everyone else is either nondenominational, Protestant, or undeclared.

And, after the meeting is over CCH is thrown open to fill residential participation, regardless of meeting attendance to a fellowship meal of sorts, usually lunch and/or dessert furnished by me. I am not even permitted to take a free will donation as she says that it is profit. I do take groceries left at my door or brought to the meeting..
