When I was a kid we always got an Easter basket full of goodies: usually various candies, a stuffed animal, a coloring book of some sort, some other little trinkets or what have you. And we always had an Easter egg hunt using both the real hard boiled eggs we dyed and the fake plastic ones that my parents would usually fill with some change or jelly beans or m&m's. We'd usually have a gathering too, we still do, although we tend to do brunch rather than a dinner. I think most people, whether they attend church on the holiday or not, do get together in some way or another. And the Easter baskets and egg hunts for kids are pretty commonplace still aren't they?

The media has a tendency to over do things though - they like to hype up how to make your gathering bigger and better or how to overload your kid with even more on Easter just the way they do with Christmas and Halloween. That's just the media for you. I don't think most people do things to that sort of extreme, but they do adhere to their traditions.

We always had parties & gifts - Easter egg hunts, presents in the baskets, special dinners for the holy days, relatives & friends from all over - "A wonderful time was had by ALL!"

Easter was always a time for new clothes, Easter baskets, and family fun for us. I just loved the Easter egg hunts.

Hi, Im new.

Mom always hid our easter baskets that were full of candy, hardboiled eggs that we had decorated the night before and small trinkets. Easter day, after finding our baskets and going to church, we would head over to my Grandma's for a large ham dinner and a big easter egg hunt out in the yard for all of the kids (cousins). Im grown now but the tradition has passed down to all of the cousins kids, hunting for the eggs. Grandma is still alive and gets to watch her great grandkids do the Easter egg hunt now. I really love that my family still has this tradition. I dont have any kids myself but its so fun to watch the kids run around hunting for goodies!

We had a big family dinner after church, and each kid got one choco-bunny, some jelly beans,a nd maybe if it was a good year financially, a few marshmallow treats. We ate the eggs for lunch for a week.

It wasn't quite this huge, I admit, but we were up at sunrise for service so we were often cold and tired! Sunrise service is one thing in the balmy South but up North where I grew up? Brrr! It'd be snowy!
