I haven't been to a concert in a long, long time. In fact, the last one I went to was Johnny Cash with my newly met future wife. It was in a local coliseum that held the annual rodeo and other special events. I remember one of the Statler Brothers asking if the people at the back of the hall if they could see them very well and commenting that's what they got for buying the cheap tickets. Now, our coliseum isn't very big. It, maybe, would hold 10,000 people. Probably less. I watch a lot of comediennes on Comedy Central and I've noticed that they play in humongous concert halls with some seats having to be hundreds of feet away from the stage. And, they're all looking at one person. I've noticed that there are big video screens on the stage. I guess, so the people can see the guy on stage better. And, its not just comediennes. Musical groups are set up the same way. Sports are not left out. All the new football stadiums, pro and college, have huge screens. Even hockey has them. While some of these screens show replays and messages, why are they really needed? Isn't viewing these screens the same as watching t.v.? I can watch the concerts and sporting events from the comfort of my recliner whether on t.v. or DVD. I really think the people who pay to see these events are getting a raw deal because promoters are cramming too many people into a venue so they can make more money.

its so you can see the act closer. if your seat are nose bleeders, its nice to have the screen. if you are on the ground, then you don't need the screen. the sound is the best part of a concert anyway. live music is incredible.

I guess it depends on the act on stage too and whether there is anything happening on the stage that would require a better view for folks in the cheap seats. When I saw Paul McCartney in concert, I think there were still screens on the side but I honestly don't remember...even though I was in one of those cheaper upper level seats, I had a pretty good vantage point and I could see plenty without the need to watch any screens to see what was happening.

I've sat in the literal nosebleeds once several years back at a Met game in Shea Stadium (the very top of the upper deck with my back against the grates and able see the US Open tennis courts over my shoulder). You'd think it'd be hard to see the baseball from that high up but actually it was a great view because unlike others in the ballpark, you could actually tell when a ball had enough oomph to get out of the park. Granted you can't see the players faces so well, but thankfully they wear their names and numbers on their jerseys. The bonus of those seats was the slight overhang that shaded the seats on a sunny August afternoon and the grate behind us allowed for a nice breeze.

guess you are right,but theres nothing like seeing,and hearing a live concert...........guess we can blame the internet of the down cline of music,because of being able to download a song without paying for it..might be a nice thing for us,but for the music industry,a very bad thing.

I agree with you Argus about the internet. While I'm a regular visitor to YouTube, I don't download songs. I enjoy them while I'm there. I think every song should have an embedded code that would not allow anyone to download it unless its paid for. Artists don't record for the fun of it. Nor do composers write for their own pleasure although that's how they started writing. Plus, the producers, engineers, technicians, and back-up singers and musicians have to be paid. Downloading a song from the internet is stealing to me. When I was a radio disk jockey, the d.j.'s had to fill out play list logs of every song they played for a 2 week period. These logs were turned in to the major publishing associations to enable the artists to get paid for airplay. Agents would go to night clubs and make a list of the songs played on the jukebox for the same reason. It should be up to the artist whether their song can be downloaded for free on the internet.

yepper,remember the good ole days,when you could see a great concert for ten bucks,ok,I know some were less,but for major acts,it was ten to twenty bucks....them days are long gone unfortunately.....the last concert I went to,was the who,cost fourty five dollars,and that was the end of my concert days............

I guess the screened concerts bug me most when its a comedienne. One person on a big stage and Jeff Dunham, a ventriloquist with with his small dummies, should be in a smaller venue.

Truth be told guys, the artists make very little off their recordings - that money usually goes back into the record companies coffiers. Record companies will say that the profits first pay off the money put out the create the music (producers, engineers, musicians, recording studio time, etc.) and then the record company gets their share. The artist only makes a small fraction and they have to move a lot of units to even get that.

Artists get pennies per song or album download or physical album purchased which is why so many tour for so long and pack so many seats in (and why the merchandise sold at the concerts can be pricey) because that's where the artists are really making their money. The only way the record company benefits from a concert is if they make a concert album.

    It still chokes me up. I had tears in my eyes again. I love Ted Lasso and would highly recommend watching it if you can. It is on Apple TV now season 4 episode 1 dropped on Wed and will continue dropping each Wed until season ends some time later this year.I must add I will gladly be paying the $19.99 per month to get these shows each week after my free 30day trial of apple tv ends from buying a...
