I had a co-worker (who is now a friend actually) that I completely misjudged, partly based on some misinformation I was given about him in the first place. In my last job I was in a supervisory role and our program had an opening and he worked in a different program for the same company and had applied for a transfer but I got it after I was already in the process of filling the spot. I was told he had to be put in our program after a situation occurred in his last program and I was lead to believe he was a problem child that was being dumped on me (turned out he was actually a scape goat for the situation that occurred so his supervisor there didn't take the blame). Admittedly, I thought I was saddled with a lousy employee, but he turned out to be the best one I had there. At one point, we were so down staff he was the only staff memeber I had and he was handling a triple caseload while working fewer hours because he was working on getting his masters. He never complained and always was willing to help. I told him more than once he was the most valuable person we had there. We still keep in touch even though I do not work with him anymore.
