I did! When I was 19 and it lasted a LONG 3 years. Should've listened to them!

Now I have been married for 26 years to someone my parents love and adore, but If I were single and met someone who I truly loved and wanted to spend my life with, I would HOPE my parents liked him , but I wouldn't let them liking him or not make my decision for me.

I will say my sons better not marry someone I don't like. Did I just contradict myself? :0)

It is my life not theirs, I agree with Luvs, would hope they liked but they cannot make my decisions, plus I AM 50 now LOL
same goes for my daughter, it is HER life, she is free to make her own choices.

It would depend on why they didn't like him. I mean, if there is something fundamentally wrong with the guy, like they know he's got some serious issues then I would heed their advice and steer clear of the guy. But if they just don't like him for something silly and superficial, then I would probably tell them to get over it if the guy makes me happy then superficial things shouldn't matter.
