I hope to find others who are living with lonliness in their later years. I know I am not the only one. But the older I get the more it feel like I am. I look around and see families and friends socializing - being happy, enjoying each others' company - but there is never a knock on my door or a ring on my phone. If I didn't have the TV and the Internet what would I do? I remember the stereotypes from my youth, of the old folks sitting in rockers - she knitting, he smoking a pipe. How different is this?
I am 70 years old. My husband works all day. My two boys are grown up and have their own lives. I know I am very lucky to have them in my life. I have gone through a depression when I retired and it seemed like my life stopped. It is really hard to make friends when you are older. My best friend died about 5 years ago.
Hope I can provide you with a few answers here but I don't know how difficult any would be for you. I learned how to make quilts, I volunteered at the nearest soup kitchen. I wanted some water exercise for my arthritis and the nearest hospital had classes for ten dollars each class. You don't even need to know how to swim. Looking for ways to save money became a hobby of mine.
I walk my dog every day and people stop me and tell me how beautiful my dog is. Chatting a bit.
I started a blog and am working on my writing and learning technology on my own.
I would say I have created a life of my own so to speak.
I know it sounds hard to get started. But with just one thing at a time, you will turn around and think that you don't know how you got there. I let these things satisfy me.
I am 25 and would love to befriend with older generation. it brings to me the feeling that grandparents are telling me the old stories that I am very interested in.
