Occipital Neuralgia Community Group
People with severe Occipital Headaches due to traumatic injury or other reasons.
So... I've been suffering from awful headaches for 6 years. doctors have been telling me TMJ and migraines for years.
But the worst pain seems to be in the occipital region, which is why I keep coming back to this diagnosis myself. What do you guys think, if anybody's out there reading this... (cricket cricket)?
I've been to dentists, an oral surgeon, internists, a neurologist, orthodontists, acupuncturists, physical therapists, a shrink, and am making an appointment for a pain specialist this week. :/
I wear a night guard every night for my TMJ (for 6 years now). I take pristiq (an anti-depressant/anti-anxiety med) and topomax (anti-migraine/seizure med). The med that works best is really percocet but I try not to take it often. Acupuncture works a little but not long-term. Massages work but not long-term. Steroid injections worked but not long term.
I'm hoping I can get some sort of nerve block. I just wish i could rip my muscle or nerve right out of my head/neck and everything would just be better.

I usually feel it start to act up under my skull behind my ear with the electric shock pain and gradually moves up my head and eventually stops behind my eyes. I have just started taking medication for it. Amytripline has helped the frequency of the headaches but never completely takes them away. I am using Celebrex for (pain as needed), which hardly ever works. I have tried everything like you and have not been able to beat this. If you ever want to talk you can message me. Its one of the most excruciating ways to live your life with this type of headache.
