Hello everyone! I'm an old nurse. I have been in the profession for 11 years. In the last year and a half, I had an issue with my license and now I am having to live out the effects of it. I still have my license and able to practice, but with an encumbered license for the next year. I am not able to continue my schooling due to this. This has left me distressed and very frustrated. I have gone through the first year of an FNP program and I am unable to even start to complete the program until May 2016. The job that I have, I took as a in-between job to relieve my stress while I went to school. I'm bored to death with it and it doesn't pay well. I don't even feel like it is nursing! I have been applying for other jobs, but I feel that with an encumbered license, nobody is going to hire me.
If someone has dealt with this issue, please e-mail me back. I'm lost and I don't feel that I have any focus.
Thanks.

I have never been disciplined, suspended, revoked or had any derogatory marks on my lic, however, I hope this helps. You did not mention what the disciplinary action against your license was for and without knowing it is difficult to gage the severity of the action that caused the disciplinary action by your state board. It sounds like the state board has but stipulations and requirements for you to fulfill before consideration for you to continue practice. For Advance Practice and overall continuing to practice you must follow all the requirements set forth and work with the board in pursuing your goals. Good luck to you

I feel for you, I wish I knew something to help you and myself. I’ve been at this 31 years and being a nurse is all I’ve ever done. I’m kinda trapped financially to keep doing what I do and sometimes it feels like the patients are leeches on my soul instead of having medical needs. I keep praying for an answer but haven’t found one yet, They have me precept students and new nurses and I want to say run as fast as you can but of course I can’t. I’ll pray for you as well as myself.

Just a note. I have moved on. I got my MSN in nursing education. I now have my licensed back and ot is unencumbered. It has been six years since this happened and according to the BON, I don't have to report ot to my employer. For a while, I didn't think I was worthy of being a nurse. Now I am very grateful and happy where I am.
