Newbies Quitting Smoking Community Group
As floundering "newbies" trying to kick this habit of smoking, I hope this site will offer more support than those that simply tout their numbers and days of quit, without offering much support and/or sharing what the emotional realm of quitting entails in the early days of quit. Let's vent, rant and rave . . . and hopefully as a collective "group" we can nix the...

My husband and I had pleasure of getting together with some old friends we had not seen for years. We gathered for dinner at their home. I forgot that they were smokers. They tried to politely blow the smoke into the fireplace but I could very much smell the stinky smoke. On the way home I could smell cigarette and cigar smoke in the car, I kept the windows cracked to no avail. We got home sorta late and I just wanted to get into my P.J.'s. The shirt I was wearing positively reeked of smoke....GAK! I won't be returning to their home anytime soon. I will host the next event but they will absolutely have to smoke outside and well away from doors and windows. I knew I was sensitive to cigarette/cigar smoke but I swear now I can smell someone lighting up 1/4 mile from me! I got my acute sense of smell back some years ago and let me tell ya, it's a mixed blessing.

I completely agree Lanky. After you quit, you become very sensitive of the smell. Two events are strong in my mind. My hubby Bill and I went to a concert. Upon leaving at the end, we had to walk thru a WALL of smoke to get to our car. People walk out of the gates, go 10 feet and all light up. We both smelled so bad that we needed showers when we got home. Also, getting into a tight elevator with a chronic smoker is horrible. He smelled so bad and the stench just surrounded me. I actually got off at the next floor and walked up the stairs, bad foot and all. I had No Idea I smelled that bad.

Thank you for that fine inspirational speech! Very inspiring! I was having a tough enough time. You knocked me lower! I know that I am a dirty, smelly, old widower, smoker who doesn't deserve to be in your world. I'm out of here@ Fuck you!

OMGoodness, that was so uncalled for Mr Guitar. No one said anything about YOU. Lanky and myself were only accounting for ourselves. When I smoked, I knew I stunk but you don't realize how much until you quit and smell another smoker. There was NO attack on you. You were so out of line by your last remark. Lanky and I were invited to this group as we have a lot of years under our belt and we want to help others. Apology needed here.

Well, don't mean to laugh, but yes, Ed . . apology is probably in order, no matter how much emotional pain you are in right now. Sigh. Our mentors don't really get that we are widow/widowers, still dealing w/ the raw pain of losing our spouses, on top of trying to quit smoking. There is no black nor white, but a lot of gray for sure. I know you well enough to know that when you wrote the above, you were simply lashing out, not meaning it personal against any one in general. Sigh, been there. Any who . . we'll see where both of our train wrecks end. Will we quit, or won't we? Will we piss everyone off before we get there? And then simply get there on our own? Or maybe we'll completely fail because we sabatage ourselves and those that mean to support us? This is certainly a very strange jouney. BTW . . did you quit this w/e? Is that why you're so cranky? LOL All good Ed . . I've known you for quite some time, so I do understand you and can forgive quickly (although I wasn't offended). Just keep hanging in here w/ me (us). We'll accomplish our goal together!! P.S. Thanks to Deb and Lanky . . . our only two supporters here . . I think they deserve a round of applause for their efforts!! xoxo

I deleted the post for you Ed, so you can put it out of your mind. Let's just chalk it up to an "episode" best left in the past and keep it moving!

D, thank you because the best thing we all can do is "keep on keepin' on" Sometimes the best news we get is to wake up in the morning with a whole new set of issues, keeps life interesting
