Newbies Quitting Smoking Community Group
As floundering "newbies" trying to kick this habit of smoking, I hope this site will offer more support than those that simply tout their numbers and days of quit, without offering much support and/or sharing what the emotional realm of quitting entails in the early days of quit. Let's vent, rant and rave . . . and hopefully as a collective "group" we can nix the...

Some 48 hours later and I caved once again. WTH is wrong w/ me? I hate this madness. I'm trying "everything" suggested and I'm still not "getting it". . . something hasn't clicked. Am I that weak? That's the crazy part, I've been through hell and back and most if not all people that know me, consider me a very strong woman . . as do I when I think of self and all of the survival I've been through. What is it about this nico addiction that I can't beat? I think I have to do my own "psychology" and not adopting that which has worked for others. (No, not negating any and all support I've been given . . just saying that it's not working and I don't know why.) Boo hiss. Sorry to let you gals down. Not giving up . . thus this post . . but I'm at my wits end with this. Spoke w/ my sig other . . (who's a reformed smoker) . . he's supportive either way (is that good or bad?) . . but his stance is that I have too much stress on my plate . . and I'm like, "really? I always have stress . . ALWAYS, since birth . . I was born into stress. Not an excuse. Oy vey. I'm disappointed in self . . yet . . . hate to say it, happy to have a smoke. I'm hopeless at this point. Truly . . maybe someone on the main site was right . . maybe I need that oxygen tank, COPD diagnosis, emphysema?? Do I not love myself enough to quit? I'm shaking my head at the madness. Craziest part is they do have white padded rooms and walls for those that are coming off of heroine . . but nothing even remotely close to coming off of nico-demon.
Grrrr . . sorry for the rant and rave, but there's blunt honesty for you (Deb). I do appreciate all that you and Lanky have done . . I just don't know if I'm ready and I feel like I'm wasting everyone's time here. Hugs for your efforts . . . xo

P.S. Feeling especially pathetic because I've always been able to make it to at least day three, if not four . . and then the best, day 21. Ouch.

Awwww geeesh Dayna you are NOT wasting anyone's time here! My quit was successful because I wanted to quit, was ready to make some major changes in my life. I think you're still struggling with really wanting to quit as opposed to knowing that you should quit. They are two different critters. You will get there when you want to stop. Right now you are reaching out, telling your truths and that's a great beginning. I truly believe that you are not afraid of the work involved with quitting, you just are not ready to envision yourself as a non-smoker yet. The vision will come to you and when it does, embrace it, keep it near and dear to your heart and never ever hesitate to reach out and ask for support. You do NOT have to take this journey alone. OK?

Dayna, you are not letting us down in any way. You are struggling like all of us did. Your mind says "Quit Now" but I think on a more basic level, you just aren't ready. Sweetie, we will support you in anyway you need us. Maybe you should take a 'Quit" holiday and just try to get some of your stress to a manageable level. . Stop beating yourself up. It WILL happen, we just don't know when. We are in it for the long haul, and so are YOU!
