Quepasa, ironically sad ... so true. I remember a commercial for some (sleep?) medication in which, during the verbal disclaimers required by the FDA, one of the side effects (swallowing the tongue, I believe) was noted. I thought THAT MUST be "a joke". I have heard many similar ones since in which the side effects seem worse than the "condition". Another one for sleep ... getting up and doing things ... like "driving" with amnesia for the event. While rare, that's a pretty potentially serious side effect!

But truly sad, many people don't realize that drugs are often released to the market after 6 weeks of clinical trials conducted in fairly healthy (and young) males, for the most part, and without the addition of other conditions or medications That often, dangerous drugs are pulled off market in Europe, etc. way before they are (if they are) here in the U.S. It's said that the first 7 years of market "trials" are the true test of a drugs safety profile ... and consumers can report any side effects (and check for recalls and news on drugs and devices) to the FDA here: http://www.fda.gov/Safety/MedWatch/default.htm
