Hi everyone, I thought I'd introduce myself: I'm now 50 and
I have basically spent my entire life in the thrall of N's. Friends. lovers,
and 2 marriages. I am still in my second marriage, and building
the resources I need to get out. We have one son who is a teen.
The tragedy is that I believed all my Nh's projections that I was incapable and
marginally talented. I didn't think he'd say those things unless they were true.
I actually thought he was trying to help! It took me a very long time to realize
that it was his sickness not mine that made him say those things.
I was also raised by two N's and badly abused as a child. I think that
made me pretty much a sitting duck for N's. I am finally in treatment for
complex PTSD and that has given me more help than anything I've tried.
I have also benefitted a great deal from all the wisdom and kindness shared
on this board. Thanks everyone for listening and sharing.

Congratulations Betty for refocusing your life and searching out the resources you needed in order to grow stronger.
You sound awfully strong. Sooo glad you found the right help. Thank God.

Teenage years are so, so busy.
the best years of my life are around the corner, because I increasingly
feel grounded in myself.
I think before I admitted how traumatized I really was, I kept getting
sucked back into relationships with N's. Now I find I"m repelled by
them, and am amazed I found them so attractive to begin with.
Sadly though I also spent many years believing the verbal abuse my stbx would dish out. I still hear echos of what he said during some of the nasty fights we had.
I also relate to being attracted to Narcissistic personalities, I cannot believe I put up with some of these people for so long. So glad I can see it now.
