I'm totally a red-neck... I spit them out.

I spit them out but usually chew on them for a little bit after getting them. What really irritates me is that I have such sensitive teeth so sometimes when I'm chewing on my nails, a sharp pain shoots up through one of my two front teeth, which I've chewing with and it hurtssss. I hate having sensitive teeth.

I have heard that people who chew on ice cubes actually are showing a behavior that is triggered by an iron deficiency, and many ice-cube-chewers can be helped by simply taking a daily iron supplement in the form of a pill (and not by chewing on scrap iron down at the salvage yard). I wonder if some nail-biting is triggered by a protein deficiency and if some nail-biters might not be helped by eating more meat and eggs? There are people who eat dirt also, and this may be caused by some need for certain nutrients they lack in their diets. Of course, I have no explanation for people who chew on pens and pencils or plastic toys items - do you?

Jackjackjack, there are toothpastes, mouthwashes, and oral rinses for sensitive teeth available at most retail stores.

Hey, let's have a contest to see who can save up the largest amount of fingernail bits...or maybe we could have a charity drive and everybody could bring in their fingernail debris and put it all into one big heap...Nail-Biter Mountain...sorry, I'm getting a little off on a wacky tangent.

I chew on ice, fingernails, and pens, and any kind of plastic.

I eat a lot of protein, and I also take iron every day.
So I really don't think it is because of some deficiency....
I just like chewing!!!!

Eat them like a real nail-biter.
