One method I have heard of that supposedly helps people in overcoming their nailbiting habit is to wear a large elastic rubber band around the wrist. Whenever a person finds him or herself with their fingernails at their mouth, he or she is supposed to pull back and release the rubberband, or 'snap' it, thereby creating noticeable but harmless pain.

I have never heard of the rubber theroy for biting your nails. I've heard of it for quitting smoking.

i've heard of this method for people who cut themselves.

i suppose it is a temporary fix. but like all compulsions, you gotta work on the reasons for it.

This method is used for so many problems that I seem to have that if I used it for all of what they say it works for, I would have a bloody, red and swollen wrist! lol

my sister recommended i do that, but the pain from that wasn't strong enough to make me stop
