Yep, It just isn't Christmas without certain things. My go to Halloween things are Meet Me in St.Louis [has a great Halloween part], It's the Great Pumpkin Charlie Brown! and The Bad Seed. I do usually watch Miracle on 34th Street -the Maureen O'Hara, John Payne, Edmund Gwynn & Natalie Wood version on Thanksgiving, before or after football. Christmas for me is not complete without It's a Wonderful Life, The Homecoming [Waltons], A Christmas Carol [the version you mentioned and the George C. Scott version], ALL the old cartoons -The Grinch, Rudolph, Santa Claus is Coming to Town, The Little Drummer Boy [Greer Garson is great!] The Year Without a Santa and Frosty. The House Without a Christmas Tree and Meet Me in St. Louis [Yes I love that movie], and Holiday Inn. When decorating the tree I usually have a couple videos playing -one being an odd little number called A Currier & Ives Christmas. It is just Christmas music playing while they show Currier & Ives prints and Christmas cards. i love Christmas and like you have my Christmas Carol favorites: The Happiest Christmas by Petula Clarke, The Christmas Song by Nat King Cole. It's the Most Wonderful Time of the Year by Andy Williams, Have Yourself a Merry Little Christmas by Judy Garland, but I really love a lot of Christmas Carol favorites. Too many to list here, lol. Thanks, Mary, for sharing. That was way cool. Oh yes, I also read A Christmas Carol every year and at least the beginning of Little Women. -Love, atticus
Stay sedated.
You asked!!
I don't celebrate Christmas like most peeps....I celebrate it the weekend after New Years becuz it is easier and less hectic....none of my guests are in a hurry to leave (I get better buys on gifts as well).
So on the traditional Christmas day.....I sit in my jammies and curl up with a blanket on my comfy couch and watch "While You Were Sleeping."
This year I'm actually gonna watch that movie on Christmas Eve so I can get dressed so my mom and I can go to the movie theater to see "The Life of Pi" (hopefully it is still out) and just hang out casually.
When I was a little girl we sang "The Little Drummer Boy" in a choir performance for the church. I LOVE that song to this day. It brings back some very special memories.
Thanks for sharing your traditions Mary.
I just watched The Alistair Sim version of Christmas Carol. That's my fave. I have the dvd of it but is free to watch in its entirety on YouTube. Good old You Tube. Lol
I Do the usual things but I am open to doing something different like going away to a warm island and chilling out on the beach during the holidays. I would LOVE to do that one yr.
But until then I just go along with The flow. It's not always my favorite time of the yr. but I seem to be doing better this year. Not so depressed. Sometimes I get very depressed and heavy hearted around this time of yr but I will still go through the motions as I have husband and son.
And so I usually put a tree up, lights, Candles. I like to have candles out.
I put my snow globes out. Love my snow globes and my snow men ornaments. . I like celebrating the winter, snowmen, Birds feeding on the feeders, Holly and mistletoe.
I always buy a poinsettia in a pot. I bought a cream one This week as it goes with my decor better thAn the red. I have golds and creams and pale whites in my holiday decorating and on my tree.
I always cook a turkey dinner. That's work!
I always get egg nog and I have brandy and put a capful or two in the egg nog. Yum.
And I watch a movie. Me, eggnog and my doggy.
I am alone a lot but my husband will be here for four days during Christmas week.
Like I said one yr we are going to go away. Bahamas, Jamaica, Bermuda, Virgin Islands, somewhere like that. I think we need to win the lottery though.
