Exalgo?

My doctor is thinking about changing my daily pain medication Opana ER to Exalgo. Has anyone tried this medication and what do you think about it? Thanks - Lynne

Sorry, I don't know about this new pain med Exalgo.
However, I was wondering why the doc wants to change the med? Is the old one not working, is he worried about it being too strong/addictive, or bad liver enzyme results? The reason I ask is if my hubby has to go on this drug I would like to know the concerns (pro cons) of this med vs the other. BTW I have only heard good things about Opana ..except the concerns of addiction.

My doctor is only thinking of changing my pain medicine because Opana doesn't seem to be taking care of all of the pain. I have to supplement Opana ER with an instant release hydromorphone (or something like that. I keep my meds locked up so there are not in front of me). Opana is a really good pain management drug, and I've been on it for several years now, but it doesn't cover all my pain. I take 40 mg. Opana ER twice a day and I'm told that I'm on the strongest dose. It has never completely taken away my pain, it's not that I've become accustomed to it and Opana is not working anymore.

Opana is addictive, just like all of it's competitors of this magnitude of pain relief. I know that I'm addicted to it, and I don't mind. It beats the alternative. Pain comes to all of us, suffering is optional.

I started Exalgo last Thursday night. For the following 36 hours, I was in the worst pain since I've started taking pain meds. I guess it was just a transfer period from Opana to Exalgo because by Saturday I felt wonderful. I had unbound energy and didn't feel much pain. Today, Sunday, I'm feeling pain again, like same with Opana. Maybe it takes a few days for ones body to adjust.

Just a note to update the record, if anyone else is ever going to try another pain medication. I asked my PMS to remove me from this medication. I never felt any relief from it, even taking hydrocodine as a supplement to it. I returned to Opana ER 40 mg. and Opana IR 5 mg. 3xday. I'm looking for some relief.
