Mothers of Incest Survivors Wives and Mothers of Offenders Community Group
I have searched long and hard for a support group dealing with the specific issues that a mother who finds out their child/ren have been sexually abused by their husband or boyfriend face. Once the swirling chaos dies down after discovery and reporting of the abuse, we are left with so many questions, judgement by people we love the most, DSS, police, investigations,...
House full of girls. There is no way I would have been able to care for my nieces if I was in the beginning of all this. I can now look at my lil girl and see more than the abuse she endured so that, I would say, is one of my biggest milestones. She is doing great as well. But right now... I'm ok. My family is ok. Def diff but surviving
I'm OK. Going through a bump in the road at work, but that's life, isn't it. This is not the major tragedy of 3 1/2 years ago. Husband gets out in 10 months so starting to (anxiously) look forward to that.
How is everyone else?
Peekachu, thanks for the encouragement. We have just passed the one year mark since disclosure and life is still rocky. It has been the most intense year of our lives. Many positives have flowed out of this such as closer relationships with those left in our family and better communication. We are healing and developing better coping mechanisms.
The big stress atm is that we are in the middle of school holidays and this is the most difficult time for our two girls to cope at home. Last time our oldest attempted suicide twice within 24 hours. We are keen not to repeat this. Cutting is becoming worse but our girls are socialising a lot more these holidays which is helping lots. We are also tapping into counselling a lot more this time round to stay on top of things. It is so hard to cope with the fallout/consequences of abuse.
Not seeing our son, the perpetrator, is less difficult for me. I don't cry as often but there are still many triggers, including several major ones yesterday that were really unexpected.
On the health front I have developed a serious complication to a minor injury which the doctor and physiotherapist are trying to stay on top of. It's early days yet but the signs are positive. Now on a new lot of meds and steep learning curve.
Our house is on the market and we finally have some nibbles. Haven't found anywhere that looks suitable for us. Hoping this all falls into place in the next couple of months.
That's about it.
