This group is for Moms who have kids with Crohn's disease. Hopefully we can help support each other.
It's been awhile since I've written an update...at least I have good news to report this time!
Gus' surgery seems to have done "the trick." He is feeling good, gaining weight and is enjoying eating. He is just like a real boy again...no "strings" any more either. The 36 inch long PICC line was removed a week ! The first thing he did when he was able to remove the bandage...SWIM!!!
It really is the small things that bring us pleasure and joy. The trick is to never take them for granted.
Gus is still getting supplemental feedings through the G-tube. He is tolerating those better too.
He managed to make-up the five weeks of school work that he missed. It's a huge relief to be able to move into summer without school work hanging over our heads!!!
The Powerhouse fire burned through our area. Not too close to us, but it was a harrowing few days wondering which way the winds would take the fire. The fire did sweep through some areas that are home to special camps for kids over the summer. Incredibly, the camps made it through while everything burned around them. One of the camps affected by the fire was the Painted Turtle. Gus was slated to attend the Painted Turtle camp for Crohn's kids this summer. The camp buildings were not damaged by the fire, but all of the vegetation was lost and there was a lot of smoke damage. So, all camps have been cancelled this summer. I'm wondering if any of your kids had planned to attend the Painted Turtle (CCFA Camp Oasis) this year??

All as to be expected here. I suspect my son got his heart severely broken last week by a girl, and he's just moping around depressed and bored. He can't really skate now because of breaking his ankle twice this year, so I think he sort of has to reinvent himself and it will take some time. It's going to be a long summer!
I just read a recipe for hummus crackers----1/2 hummus and 1/2 flax seed meal and salt. Roll it out, bake at 375 and cut into crackers when halfway done. I'll throw some herbs in, too. Can't wait to try this because now my hubby is on a low carb diet!!!

The crackers sound great! Sorry Will is having a difficult time. I'll give you a heads-up if we make it down to Riverside over the summer. Do you think Will would like to meet Gus? If Will plays World of Warcraft, he can meet up with Gus in the Might and Magic guild in the Arathor Realm. They are very kid friendly...no yelling, no cursing,...all "clean" conversation. :)
