My heart goes out to you. I know first hand how scared and worried you are right now. And that you want nothing more than to make your baby healthly again! My son who's is also 11 was diagnosed when he was 8. He was very sick for 2 years but thanks to Remicade ...he is a normal healthy boy and his Crohn's is in remission. So I am giving you the HOPE and prayers that the medicine works for your son too!!

Was he ever on Humira? My doctor mentioned Remicade also, but feels Humira us the way we should go right now. The side effects are very concerning. I also read that the shots are lost painful; and there again another huge concern. He already been thru 2 minor surgeries with a 3rd upcoming now that we have the results from the Pill Cam diagnosing his disease.

I have a 13-year-old son who was just diagnosed. They put him on Prednisone and Methatrexate (I probably butchered those). He has tolerated both well and is actually tapering off the Prednisone. He hasn't really had any side effects other than irritability which could either be the Prednisone or the fact that he's a teenager. I don't have any experience with Humira but my son is feeling a lot better so the medicines he is on are apparently doing their job. Lisa - do you have any advice, particularly with coping skills?

no my son hasn't ever tried Humira....his father has crohns as well and has been on Remicade for 14 years now...so when Prednisone, Methatrexate ,Pentasa didn't work we opted for Remicade even though there was no guarantee it would work for my son. So we are extremely grateful that its working so well for him.
Coping with this disease is so hard because it can take so much from you. We are always constantly talking about how my son feels so he can tell us if hes having in any problems. I really hope the medicine works for all these boys so they can focus on being kids and dealing with a disease !!
