Motherless Daughters Community Group

For any daughter who has lost their mother, whether through Death (if it's been one day ago or 40 years ago) or Abandonment, (i.e.-drug abuse, mental illness, physical or emotional abuse, etc.) and is working through the grief process. This group provides unconditional support and understanding from women who have also lost their Moms and who truly care.

when i took on the notion of being a mother...yet alone a single mother...I did not factor the emptiness that I feel because my own mother is not alive. my mother died when I was 10.
now i am 37, established in my career, a good footing in life with a baby girl...she is 14 months! Beautiful. Happy Healthy. Determined. However, all I keep thinking about is how I miss my mother, my grandmothers even.
There is no one to mother me while I mother her...and this has me feeling empty, alone and sad. I battle with these feelings bc I think that I should be happy to have my daughter and I am so thankful for this little being...but I need support and not the kind that you get from your friends who may visit occasionally or a sibling..but the kind of support that I assume mothers give their daughters. I dont know what to do or where to seek help. I am stressed and feeling unconfident in my own mothering. Can anyone relate? and do you have any good advice.

I just lost a pregnancy. I will be 35 in Feb. I am terrified of being a mother who dies young. I developed phobias of pregnancy and motherhood over my adult life. I am now in a committed long term relationship where children could be a reality. Scared too....even though I am established, mature, and more than capable in other areas of my life. I am like a timid child in my potential motherhood realm. Good luck, my dear. It is a new part of my life that is a true mystery.

I dont have any advice. I made the decision when I was 16 never to have children for the very reason ericaloc has stated....I dont have regrets, but I always wondered what if.....i know now, had I chosen to, I would have been a good mom. I know now that even though I lost her young, I would have raised mine the way I was raised why??? Because that's all I know. See, even though she's not physiclally been with you since you were 10, she was with you for 10 years, during those critical formative years. Instinctively, you are raising yours like you were, because that's all you know. Even if it's not conscious, she is in you and you are passing your mom and you to your child. Your mom is there. Talk to her, you wont hear her voice, but you can imagine what she would say to you, what do you want to hear from her? That's exactly what she would say. You can even find support from your own heart. You only had her for 10 years, but look at the person you are, what you've accomplished so far. Alot of that is a result of those years she was with you that you probably can't even remember. Have no fear, that you are doing the right thing. You are giving your child love, affection, dicipline, guidance and will continue to do so.

My younger sister and I lost our Mom a very long time ago.
I understand just how LOST you feel.
I have felt like that, my sister to...
She was not there for any of my sister's kids births...My kids were 1 and 3...:(...
My children grew up without either of their grandmother's my Mom had passed and I went through a separation/divorce.
So like you basically on my own...
Last year I ALMOST lost my dd.
My kids and I are very close.
I had friends but like you said it's not the same...
I just want you to know that you are not ALONE!
