Oh boy, do I know those fears and feelings. I am so heavey I think that when I am interviewing for a job people see me as a FAT candidate, not just a qualified applicant. Fat people have health problems, health problems cost insurance and employers money, money they don't want to spend. Fat is a health issue that they can see, whether or not you really are sick from it doesn't matter. Insurances use statistics for deciding what and who and how much to cover and statistically, fat prople are expensive to cover. It is not fair, but thats the way health care is in our country. It has to change, do you think?

I certainly know what you mean! I have to try a hundred times harder than my 'skinny' counterparts even though at times I am more qualified and could do the job better.
We are judged by how we look. It's not fair but it is reality. I had to finally decide to do something that could keep me out of the 'public' eye. Part of this is because I am not able to physically fight anymore. I have major non weight related health issues. I am braving going to college and facing THE LOOKS so I can learn how to get published. Writing is something I can do in the privacy of my own home and within my health limitations. With the skills knowing how to get published I can make money and feel useful again.
My situation is very different though because my 'husband' works and I am on his insurance. He doesn't want to have anything to do with me and isn't interested in my life, but that's another post. LOL
I wish you the best and will keep you in my prayers! Keep trying and fighting someone somewhere will see your talents and hire you. We just have to try harder to make it happen. I guess females in the police department, fire department and military had to go through this non acceptance too but look at them now. They are in jobs that no one thought they could do just because they are women!

Be sure to ask your health care providers for a discount as an uninsured person. Some docs give it automatically and others won't unless you ask. Asking has saved me 10 to 25 percent on medical and dental bills.

PS: For the last 3 jobs I worked, I hired into each weighing more than 300 pounds. Present yourself well, pretend your size isn't an issue (even tho we all know it is) smile and try to be confident, and go for any job you want. You are qualified and a deserving candidate!

One thing I've noticed? The bigger the company, the more diverse the workforce is, the greater odds of a larger person getting hired.

I just went back to work after being off for almost 2 years. I have issues with my right calf from a brown recluse spider bite that was not diagnosed or treated properly for 8 days. I called a lady who had done the class that I needed for recertification, she is a contractor for the local district. I got lucky as she knew me from on the cb`s and stuff when I drove for the 6 years.

I do know that it is difficult and its hard in todays society when you are over 100 pounds then what people think you should be. When you go in hold your head high, and be confident in the fact that you know you are qualified and competent to do the job that you are applying for. IN my physical through the docs that the company used the doctor had me do stuff that he said he makes all overweight people do that want to drive a bus. It was annoying but I did it and am so very glad that I did as I am happier now that i`m back working even though it is just as a sub
