Hi Karin my name is Verna I am 5'6 and weigh 260 lbs, Weight has always been an issue. Youth through highschool I was called "skinny", "Bird legs" and mom insisted I wear double cloths,cause she said I was to skinny and looked like a little" refugee",Then I get married and have three beautful kids and a husband that detested fat,and that I had became.After our last child was born. I have very few memories of ever feeling comfortable in my own skin. Our marriage ended after 25 years and I lost weight then gained it back,infact I have lost and gained that same hundred lbs a thousand times it seems.I started to implement the Food addicts anonymous plan and the 12 steps program, I have 1 almost two days. Hi Karin and Verna...Same here ,I was almost anorexic in high .school.Gained 75 lbs with the first child,lost 65 of that and gained 75 with my second child 7 years later..was much more difficult to lose since I was older.and in a bad marriage where my ex was extrememly jealous. I eventually gained up to 235 until my divorce at 42..Lost 55 lbs..re married and went through menopause and have hypothyroidism so at 58 I got up to 297..I have lost 13 lbs in the last month by calorie counting and switching my thyroid medicine before I go to bed. Karin have you had your thyroid checked?.fibro is one of the many symptoms of hypothyroidism..My weight gain came on so gradually over the years,,but could not lose..Finally had to insist with the dr to check my thyroid..I stopped gaining when I was treated.

Hello again NovScorp It was good to see a reply. I to have fibrmyalgia as well as hypothyroidism. What med do you take for the Hypothyroid. I am not on any meds at this time accept for high blood pressure. Tonight is my first 12 step program for food addiction. Especially Flour ,sugar and wheat products.Little nervous about going, I have been isolating myself for the last year.Will keep you posted. I will weigh once a month thats it. I need to lose the "crap" inn my head as much as the weight.I am working the 12 steps as a way of life,one day at a time.I hope and pray for all those and you who are suffering withthe weight and the addiction. Nov, you asked if I've had my thyroid checked. Yes, and the results are always normal. I have read quite a bit where people can be hypothyroid and still have normal labs. If that would be anyone, it would be me; I have every single symptom. I haven't found a doctor that will treat based on symptoms rather than labs so far.

Vern, I hope your 12-step program gave you inspiration and support. Good for you in taking that next step in your journey!

Nice to meet you Vern and Bzz..Right now I am on levothyroxine,But I have been studying and think I might need armour..I switched to taking thyroid medicine at night..That way I have to stop eating 2 hours before I go to bed as it has to be taken on an empty stomach..So that has helped with the acid refux at night as well. Vern If you are hypothyroid you need to be treated for that..There is so many symptoms from a low thyroid..High blood pressure,depression,is just a couple of them..I had been treated for depression for years before I was treated for hypothyroidism.Finally after many requests they tested me for hypo ..within weeks after treatment my energy levels returned.No more naps in the afternoon,ect.
