Misophonia! Community Group
Misophonia is an extreme hatred of certain sounds believed to be caused from abnormally strong connections between the autonomic and limbic systems in the brain. I have personally suffered from misophonia my whole life, so I know how hard it can be. Lets learn to be more at peace with it together please!
anyway, it's complicated, and people can have different disorders all mixed together. my father, my son and i all have Central Processing Disorder (that means we hear normally, but our brain doesn't process the words we hear as well as most people's brains do). we also all have Attention Deficit Disorder and different kinds of learning disabilities too. and on top of that, i have misophonia, and my son has it a little bit, but my dad doesn't have it at all. and i have tinnitus (ringing of the ears) and some hypercussis (loud sounds really HURT my ears).
so.. not sure what to tell you, but i think your family, if they are like me, are probably searching for explanations of what is going on with your brain and why you're having a hard time too. i heard there was recently a show on 20/20 (on ABC) that was about misophonia, and i saw a lot of people with misphonia said it explains it really well - for both people who are suffering from it, and for their families and friends.
you might try finding that episode on youtube or on the ABC website and show it to your family. just google "ABC 20/20 misophonia" and you should be able to find it.
