No I don't think so - the problem as I see it is that it is such a vast subject fongng a topic that we all can relate too is difficult especially when complicated by nationality and concomitent outlooks.
And as far as being in the middle of two wars I think this is irrelevant and from my perspective as a British subject the casualty rates have been low and in line with those sustained in Northern Ireland and impact on civilian life in the UK has been if not quite zero almost zero - certainly less than the Northern Irish campaign (Operation Banner) when British territory was regularly attacked and the mainland itself subject to terrorist bombings. The operation in Afghanistan is only 7 years old and is projected to last some 30 years by UK analysts.
OFF TOPIC: The problem is that over 50% of the combat strength of the British Army is deployed in operational zones around the world. There is a shortage of Infantry and 1000 Naval personnel have been drafted in to fulfil this role recently - this harks back to the old Naval Brigades of the colonial era and of the Great War.
i don't know why we don't have more members of this group. war can be a sensitive subject. i hope the english guy give us subject on the wars england has fought.

we are know down to six members this group if going down. i wish we had more input in this group i find military histroy interesting. i suppose because i am a vietnam vetern.
I have always found military history very fascinating. Having served myself (1st Inf Division, 15th Ciops Battalion) in the first gulf war, I find I like to go back and see the mistakes that were made and try to figure out what the turning points were. My major points of study are the civil war and WWII.
Military history is extremely important to talk about...it reminds us what our past is all about and the future. I have served 3 T.O.D.'s in Afghanistan and have been back now for 6 months. I am really interested in what really went on in the Vietnam War, as it was so totally different than this war. Vietnam2nd, maybe you can shed some light on the subject?
I think it's important that we know of past military history. If we don't learn from our mistakes, we are bound to repeat them. I'm fascinated with Civil War history since it's the war that shaped our country. I keep a book in my "library" and read when I can. I've visited many of the sites, been to the Mall in DC and am always amazed at what I learn.
I've been to The Wall twice and each time, my hair stands on end and I can't help but cry the entire length of that Memorial. So many gave so much so we could keep our freedom.
I'm a war baby, my Dad was a WWII vet stationed in Germany. So many times I tried to get him to talk about the war so I could try to understand it better but he flat refused.
Having said that, I salute all of those who fought in all the wars to preserve the freedoms we have today.
