my cousin his going to iraq an his son for the sixth time. this is redicoulous we need to bring back the draft. we had no business in iraq in the first place ben lauden attach us not saddum hossan. we should fight in afganistan but not in iraq. iraq has become another vietnam. please pray for my cousin and his son. this keep all are find man and woman that are in the military and keeping us safe. my cousin and his son are making a career out of the military. he will have 30 years in next year and will be able to retire.
Well....it looks like I'm gonna be the only one here that thinks this war was needed. Saddam tourchered his people and he did have WMD's. He had chemical WMD's. We found his little stashes....remember? I agree that we should have put more effort into Afganistain, but the Iraq people needed help, and the USA always helps, even if most of the world hates us. We're always the first to help and the last to be thanked.

After 9/11 tolerance for his brinkmanship was exhausted and he reaped the consequences. Deposing the Bathist regime served a number of purposes: It demonstrated to all regional powers that we would not tolerate any aggressive posturing from them and that they could be overthrown with little effort. Demonstrating this resulted in Libya renouncing international terrorism and is now a useful ally to the EU, additionally Syria no longer interferes so blatantly in the Lebanon and no longer officially supports terrorist acts against the west.
The quagmire that allied forces find themselves in now is a direct result of mistakes made by the Civilian administration in the six months after the war. Instead of rapidly restoring electricity and water to the population they were more concerned with dealing out lucrative contracts to all and sundry rather than installing an effective albeit temporary colonial administration. Too much effort was wasted on attempting to get a 'democratic' government established at an early stage. It was obvious that the answer too Iraq's ethnic divisions was the establishment of a Federal or Confederal state after all Iraq is a made up country (1922) with no natural borders. The mistakes demonstrate the incompetence of the administrations planners and is again reflected in the way the federal and state governments failed to get a grip after hurricane Katrina.
However, we are stuck with the situation as is. What should be done and worked in the British Empire is to buy off those with power so that they work for you. Divide and conquer. If that fails fund their political rivals to deal with the problem for you. To gain peace you have to appeal to the self interest of those with power and influence.
