First, let me tell you I'm not a deer hunter. I helped my dad cut up too many of them to want to kill one. But, I married into a deer hunting family and one year they invited me to go on a deer hunting trip. The company my father-in-law worked for had a large lease in southwest Texas about a ten hour drive from my home town. We were to spend the Thanksgiving holidays at the lease. We left for the lease about five Thanksgiving morning and expected to get to the lease no later than five that afternoon. But we had a problem. We were using two vehicles, my mother-in-law's Cadillac and my father-in-law's pick-up. The pick-up was pulling a World War II army command car on a trailer. The four wheel drive command car was to be used hunting. The car is a big vehicle,,about 2-3 times the size of a jeep and about 7 feet tall at the top of the windshield. We started out and the trailer began to "fish tail" when the pick-up got up above 45-50mph. Add driving on 2 lane highways for 90% of the trip and we were in for a long, long ride. We hit a small town about noon and found only a small cafe open. It didn't look like much,,,a gravel parking lot in front of a small, white stucco building with blue oval windows. It had a bare concrete floor, old wooden tables with red and white checkered oil cloth table cloths, ladder back chairs with wicker seats, and some old booths along the walls. There were five of us, my in-laws, a young brother-in-law, my wife and me, so we sat down at a big table and hoped for the best. We ordered the Thanksgiving dinner, not expecting very much. But, we were in for a big surprise. They brought out dinner with all the trimmings in family size serving bowls! We sat there like we were having dinner at home! Never judge a book OR cafe by its' cover. That dinner made the next 8 hours on the road a whole lot easier.
