You've read the stories of convenience stores being robbed. Some of the clerks were hurt or killed. Well, it happened to me. I was the assistant manager of a 7-Eleven many years ago when I was about 28 years old. Those were the days when the employees wore those red and white smocks that had all the logos on them. The counter was in the center of the store with the hot dog maker, condiment rack, coffee maker and hot chocolate maker were on the back counter. The first two doors of the reach-in cooler, directly behind the counter, had all the "Hot-To-Go" sandwiches. the store was not in the best part of town and I was used to seeing the winos and dope heads come around. They were our biggest customers. I was working the 3pm-11pm shift. A well dressed young man came in about four on a Friday afternoon. He bought a sandwich and soft drink and began to eat there. It wasn't very busy and we had time to talk as I waited on the few customers that came in. He bought another sandwich, drink, and a candy bar. About five, as a customer left he called to me. When I turned, he had a 38 caliber long nosed revolver positioned between the coffee and hot chocolate makers. He told me to put all the folding money in the register in a paper bag and give it to him and nobody would get hurt. I had just gotten the money in the bag when another customer came it. He just stood there! I waited on a dozen customers for the next hour while he waited. He came around behind the counter and put the gun to the back of my head and demanded the money. I gave it to him and he went out the front door saying he'd see me later.
