Memories, pressed between the pages of my mind, Memories, sweetened thru the ages just like wine. Come here and remember,, the good times and the bad.

Those of you who have been around me a while have heard of my aunt Molly through my Christmas writings. For those of you who haven't, Aunt Molly was my great aunt,,,my mom's aunt,,a sister of her mother. She was the only great aunt I can remember having, but we all called her Aunt Molly. She lived with her husband, Uncle Bill, in a town about 2 hours' drive from our house. Sunday trips to her house were a treat. Her town looked nothing like my hometown and it was a bit complicated to get to her house. Her house was different too in that it was made of natural stone that was rare in our town. And it was special to us. What made it special was a screened in porch that ran halfway across the front and most of the way down the left side of the house. And it had metal louvers that could be opened and shut to let the air in. These were the days when cooling was furnished by fans and evaporative coolers,,,not air conditioning. Really special trips were when we would spend a few days or a week there. Her grandson, about my age, lived next door which meant Vickie and I had someone to play with. The nights were special because we could sleep on the porch. It was big enough to allow roll-away beds. The louvers would be opened and we could see the night sky, hear the insects and animals, and feel the cooling breeze. Never a better sleep! And there were other special things about Aunt Molly's. They had a two-car garage which was no big thing, except, inside, hanging on nails on the walls, were white onions and garlic. Onions and garlic were known to me since Dad had a grocery store, but I never realized(silly me) they had stems. They were grown in their garden along with other vegetables. I can't talk about Aunt Molly without mentioning a special treat she made,,,vinegar roll. Her house was the only place I knew to get it. Nobody in the rest of the family made it. The sweet, tart confection was marvelous. I've searched my mom's recipe files and haven't found it, nor have I been able to find it on the internet.
