Moco,,,,not a very special name for such a beautiful collie dog.(There's a photo of her in the photo section.) My older sister gave her that name. It was the nickname of a former boyfriend. Not very appropriate, but she was the oldest kid and I guess that's why she got to name her. Moco was a very gentle, loving, and patient friend. She even let the cat we had ride on her back. She surprised one afternoon by giving birth to a bunch of puppies. We didn't know who the father was. It was the early 1950s and although people were getting fences around their back yards, dogs were allowed to roam the neighborhood except at night. Her having puppies wasn't the surprise. Its how she had them or better where she had them. I came home from school and my mom yelled, "Moco's had her puppies and they're all over the yard!" I thought she was kidding, but as I got to the yard I realized she wasn't. There were puppies in the flower beds, along the fence lines, and under trees. And there was a big bunch of them. Although its hard to believe, and I may remember wrong, she had eleven. That's the number that has stuck in my mind through the years. Mom and I spent a good half hour finding all of them and putting them into a refrigerator box that we had gotten from a furniture store for that purpose. Moco wasn't a very good mother and who would be with so many new kids. She would lay down on some of them at times and even with the big box there wasn't a lot of space. We lost 3 due to her inexperience, but the survivors were beautiful. I'll never forget that afternoon that I hunted for puppies.
