Now, ladies, don't get uptight. This is an innocent memory. Kotex was a mystery to young boys growing up in the 50s. We didn't know what they were or what they looked like. All we knew was that they came in odd shaped boxes in strange colors. The colors, I learned later, signified the thickness and size. They were big, but very light. So light, that when I finally was able to put my arms around the case, it was the first case I could lift when I worked at my dad's grocery store. And there were little belts that were used with them. I didn't know what they were used for, but I noticed they were only bought by women. Very mysterious! While in junior high, it was a big deal for the boys to sneak into the girls locker room and see the Kotex machine. That did us no good since we didn't know what they were used for. But, it was a rite of passage for a junior high boy to see the machine.
