Bob Keeshan who later became Captain Kangaroo was the original Clarabell. He left after a salary dispute.

Oh I remeber it. I used to sit on the floor with my sister and watch it everyday. LOL

I remember the first family on our block getting a T.V
They filled the living room with chairs and all the kids in the neighborhood came and watched Howdy :-]

I was a child during the the 50's and "Howdy Doody" I can tell you was most certainly watched on a regular basis in my house. Although when viewed today by children it is somewhat primitive in it's production, but in the " Day" it was state of the art and drew vast numbers of viewers. I believe the show ran from 1949 to 1962 about, this is the proof of it's popularity.

i remember howdy doody...but like a couple of others...i remember sheriff john and captain kangaroo better! sheriff johnwas red light green light for drinking your milk!!! come to think of it....i'm thinking my little brothers got to ;pick the shows we watched!

maybe it's that middle child syndrome of not getting to do what you want!!! heheh....i had to watch what everyone else picked out! hehe.....but they were all good.
