John Wayne. In "Gunsmoke's" first episode, Wayne narrates the show's opening. Another interesting bit of TV trivia is the fact that James Arness' brother is Peter Graves, of "Mission: Impossible" fame. The Duke ultimately declined the "Gunsmoke" offer because he preferred to keep his likeness on the larger-than-life silver screen rather than the smaller-than-life TV screen.
