I guess I'll start this group with my first car. In 1962 my parents decided to send me to a high school in a suburb of our town. The reasons are not important, but it made it hard on my mom because my little sister still was attending the local school. She couldn't take both of us to school so that let me buy my first car. I was 16 and going into my junior year. I had 2 savings accounts that my parents opened for me. One for college and one for a car. The money came fromme working at my dad's grocery store. The majority of my salary went to these accounts and I was allowed to keep the rest. Soon after I started looking for a car, one of my friends told me his dad had a car he needed to sell since the family was being tranferred in the Air Force and he didn't want to take the car. I went over to his house and there it was,,,a bright yellow 1950 jeepster convertable! There's a picture of a car that looked exactly like it in the photo. I fell in love with at first sight. he wanted $400 for it. Well, I had only $393 in my car account so I borrowed $7 from him. He said he figured I was good for it. Plus, he knew where I worked. It's not fancy. Kinda odd looking in fact. The front seat was adjusted by taking 4 bolts out of the floor and moving them and the seat to another position.(There were only 3.) It had a standard column shift. The engine was a 4 cylinder with only 63 horsepower. Needless to say, it wasn't built for speed. But it was built for fun. And that's what I had. I immediately put an "ah-ooo-gah" horn under the hood with a button on the steering column to blow it. It scared a lot of people when it blew. There were 2 chrome steps on the back fenders so anyone who wanted to get in the back seat could just climb in without opening the doors if the top was down. The little car was a hit with my buddies. It was great for Chinese fire drills because you could get back in the car from the sides or over the spare tire that was bolted to the outside of the car at the back. It wasn't built for speed, but was maneuverable and steady. We proved that one Sunday afternoon. We had a game we played in the city park that was a little dangerous and totally against the law,,,Car tag. Car tag is played with 2 cars. One chases the other until it gets within 2 feet of the other car's bumper. Uh-huh. Most of the park's roads are only 2 lane and the main road winds through the park from the river, up to a high cliff. There are no shoulders and the speed limit is 30 mph. We seldom were that slow. Add 10-20mph to that. The other car was usually a 1959 Ford Galaxy. A big car that could easily catch me on a straight road, but there were few straight roads. One Sunday, while we were playing, I was going back down from the cliff and the Galaxy was within 20 feet when one of the guys saw a road going to the left about 50 feet away. He yelled turn left and as we were making the turn, the right rear tire blew. I just knew we were dead, but the little car hardly swerved and we came to a safe stop while the Galaxy had to go all the way down to the river. With 4 guys changing the tire, by the time the Galaxy got back up, we were ready to go down. But the car worked for the fun. I was in Vo-Ag and hauled cattle feed in the back. The girls liked it for fun dates, Putt-Putt, drive-in movies, walk-in movies, but serious dates, dances, meant the little car stayed home and the family car went out. I kept the car for the 2 years I was in high school, then my dad wanted to get me another car since I was going to college in a big city 90 miles away. He just didn't trust the little car on the highway for that distance. He bought me a pea green 1960 Ford! Not a fun car. I'll always remember that little jeepster and all the fun we had in it. Wish I still had it.

My first car was a 1970 Ford Maverick. It had the larger motor and a silver paint job with the hood and rear blacked out. It could really move. A lot of mustangs had motors not much bigger, but they were heavier.

My first car was a mark 1 escort bought for me by my favourite uncle. When i first saw this car it was multi coloured the majority of it was burgundy but with a navy blue wing. The front grill was all bashed and broken. My poor mother was having kittens at the thought of me driving it but id just passed my test and i didnt care what it looked like. Nevertheless i was told by my uncle that he would be fixing it up for me before i could drive it. He had a mate who spray painted buses so it was sent to him. A couple of weeks later i came home to find it sitting waiting for me in my dads runway and guess what it was bright red the colour of a double decker bus. The grill was fixed and boy was i in love. It had a wee GTX steering wheel in it as well. I called it Bernie

My first car was my sisters 1965 Rambler American. I rebuilt the engine and with some bad advice I put the rear seal in wrong. I was one of those car that when you went to a gas station you said "Fill it up wit oil and check the gas" !! After leaving to many oil marks on the road in front of my parents home my dad found a 1967 Dodge Coronet 500 a doctor was trading in and bought that for 750.00, my payments were 27.00 a month! Through the years I've always had hot cars and still do! I also can build an engine that Doesn't leak oil!!!
