Did your family have a big console radio? I still have the one my family used to watch. It's 34 inches tall, 34 inches wide, and 16 inches deep. The mahogany colored console was dual purpose in that it also had a record changer. Looking at it from the front a door opened on the right for the radio part to reveal the linear lighted dial. Under it were 4 knobs,,the first on the left turned the radio on and controlled volume,,the second one to the right selected either AM or FM,,,the next knob switched back and forth between the radio and record changer,,the farthest on the right was the station selector. The AM-FM selector was kept on AM because we didn't know what FM was. Any time we turned it to FM all we got was static. To the left of the radio part, a drawer pulled out to get to the record changer. It had a tall spindle that allowed 6 78rpm records to be played one by one. Under the radio was a closed storage place for records. Under the changer were the speakers. We spent many evening watching the radio. Did you watch the radio?
