I wish I could see a box again. Not just any box,,,a special box. It was a box that supplied a lot of play during the summers when I was growing up. My buddies and I discovered the box by accident. It was laying behind a furniture-hardware store. It had been used to transport refrigerators to the store. It had a wood frame with thick cardboard stapled to the inside and it was big. We knew we wanted it when we saw it. It was a mystery as to what we could do with it but we still wanted it. Getting it back to the neighborhood would be a problem. We were on our bikes so we couldn't carry it. After a little talking, we decided we could pull it behind our bikes. Just attach a rope to the box and the bike seat stem. We knocked on the back door and asked the man if we could have it and he said yes. So we got some rope and pulled it home. When we got there, we knew we needed more. We went back the day and two more boxes were there. The man told us we could take any box we found. After about a week, we had close to a dozen boxes. What we did with them is another story. But, the reason I want to see the box is to see how big it really was. Refrigerators weren't that tall in the 50s and not that wide, but 4 boys could squeeze into one. When you're small, things are bigger. Just how big was that box?
