So, I couldn't start my 2nd IVF (immediatley following egg retrieval) cycle in June due to a functioning ovarian cyst. Doc sidelined me on birth control for 2 weeks. Had my next new baseline appointment yesterday after 2 wks on BC and they found that the cyst is still there, and has slightly grown in size. It was 18-20 mm 2 weeks ago (my estrogen level was 77). And now it is 22-26 mm (estrogen level is 116!). Given that my estrogen is abnormally high (note, your estrogen needs to be BELOW 70 in order for you to begin stims, typically), they said if they allow me to stim, then the cyst will eat up the meds and potentially grow big and cause issues. The verdict? Nurse says my doc says to wait out a cycle. WTF!!! Just so non chalant, like I have all the time in the world. Every month I dont try, is a month where a potential golden egg is sacrificed. I do not know why they didn't go in and drain it. The nurse said they don't routinely drain cysts because its not worth the general sedation. They prefer the cyst goes away on its own. And since mine didn't respond to birth control, thats best. I read online that some docs go in and drain it with local anesthesia. Dr. Google says that some women's cysts disappear after one complete cycle and some say it took them 3 months to dissipate! So, I had a bad day yesterday. Kept crying and telling my hubby that I was sorry for letting us down. He was so sweet and gave me a pep talk that gave me strength again. He says we need a new clinic fast. One that is more aggressive and gives more one on one care. Not sure what to do. Searching for 2 other places in San Diego that have had good reviews. Planning on getting new consults.
