Hi,my boyfriend recently has told me that he wants to join the marines (I think he is sure, its been a dream of his for years, but he is also very prone to changing his mind so im not sure if he will truly decide to sign up). We've been together for 2 years and 4 months so far, and i love him with my whole heart. I want to support him and his dreams, because hes done so much for me (we moved away to college together) and I want his to fufill his dreams. Although I am being supportive, its still so hard for me to think about his leaving for so long and not being able to talk to him (we spend almost everyday together). I also dont know a lot of information on the Marines or the military in general, so i feel very frightened when i think about him getting deployed. I love him so much, hes my best friend, I just need some help understanding what to expect (I understand they go to training for 13 weeks), and some help with coping mechanisms. I want to support him, so its hard for me, I dont want to cry and show that im upset because i know it will make him feel guilty and he is by no means making this choice to hurt me but rather to follow his own dreams. I know my situation may not seem as serious or real as those girlfriends that their boyfriends are currently in bootcamp or deployed, but I would appreciate any advice or even just a new friend to talk to!
