Hi I'm melissa. I'm new to the site and just looking for support. My boyfriend left today for 2 weeks and will be back for 5 days but will leave again for an year for deployment in Japan. I'm having such a hard time coping with this since this is his first time deploying. I've gotten so used to always having him here by side since we live together, I always woke up with him there. I dont know what to do to help with the sadness and how to make time go by. I just want him to stay here with me and not have to go. What's the best way to deal with this? I feel so alone not having anyone to talk to about this. Everyone says that it's okay and not to worry but it's so hard because it's your love one leaving. And not being able to have communication is what makes it worse. I just want to hear how everyone else copes with this deal so I can feel better and know that it will be fine.
Over the years I’ve learned to become very self reliant and independent while my Marine is away. Of course I have my days where I cry watching old videos of us and I text him all day just spilling my love for him and that’s okay. You are a human with their heart thousands of miles away. My best advice is to find something that keeps you busy and makes you happy. If you have animals, make it a habit to take them to the park on your off days. If you enjoy crafts then start on a craft that symbolizes you and your hunny. If you enjoy cooking, get those skills down to a T girl and make a bomb ass meal for when he comes home. Journal or get involved in a group close to your home.
These are easier said than done and truthfully it took me a while to even start on my own, but it will help. The distance never gets easier, at least for me. It’s like yesterday that he left when truthfully it’s been months. But you learn to be okay being his support and his rock and standing by yourself while you have to until he comes home.
