Ruined Relationships

Hi , I am at the end of my rope and have/had the most wonderful amazing woman I've ever been with and want to marry ....I can't stop lying to her about little stuff / big stuff and may have lost her because of this behavior and have hurt her over and over again. This is someone I consider my best friend and I am afriaid of her reactions ?!?The outcome are the two feelings I get when I can't or won't rather tell the truth. I have burnt a lot of bridges and ruining all the real relations around me and now on the cliffs edge of losing the love of m my life if there is any chance to save this and myself ....I have to stop this. SOS and Help

Hey Pantsonfire56...

What kind of reactions are you afraid of?

I tend to find I lie to avoid situations and conversations, even though I know in my gut that's an even worse reality.

And the small lies destroy me the most because they are so easy to overcome.

Thank you for the reply. Thought for sure this was just stuck in cyber world for no one to ever discover. Reactions of disappointments or anger I guess but lies only only cover up for so long and it Inevitable. I am getting some therapy meditating, need to start journaling again. Again thank you for the response good to know someone is listening. Good luck

I am in same situation my wife has been the beat thing that has happened in my life and I find my self lying to her about stupid things and now I am looking at a divorce if I can’t fix this

I am right there with you. I have an amazing wife, two amazing young boys. And I can’t stop lying to her, and I continue to get caught and now I’m facing divorce as well. I never saw my self here in my life. But I have to say I to fear my wife’s reactions, I find I don’t want to make her mad or disappoint her, so I do my best to cover up the lie, or fix the problem. But inevitably it blows up in my face and the very fears come to life. It’s an addiction I can’t control.

Same story here. Married 26 years and have lied compulsively. Little to big lies. Covering up financial struggles multiple times. Lying about problems with household issues or not telling her until I’m found out. I’m always afraid of her reactions and it’s easier to lie and wait and ask for forgiveness. I have asked for forgiveness and swarm up and down I will never lie again. Too many times to count. I want to stop this vicious pattern of lying, but anything I say to my spouse means nothing because she’s heard it all before. Is there anything I can do at this point?

I have the same story and I'm now divorced. I've lost friendships because of my lying. My kids pity me, so they deal with me from that vantage point. I don't know why I'm so fearful, but it's the catalyst for my lies. The worse has been when I've been fired. Instead of saying, "I was fired," and dealing with the reactions, I scramble around trying to cover up, happy that I can buy sometime until the next pay period. It's crazy and I want to stop.
