Take some time to read the posts from other members. There's a lot to learn from the experiences and confessions of others.
It took me a while to get that. I posted and expected responses, but none came at first. I think we're so used to social medias instant fix that we expect it everywhere.
I hope you find some answers and encouragement from reading the posts of other liars. I know I have..
The best advice I can give is to keep challenging yourself. Set realistic targets and start to allow yourself to be seen for who you are not what you think others want you to be. I believe that having the courage to be authentic and true to yourself is the path to honesty. I'm still very much at the start of the journey as I think a lot of us on here are.
Stay strong and keep reading and posting. Remember you're not alone in fighting this. We're all in it together and we're stronger for sharing our problems and our struggles.
Im afraid I struggle with the 12 step programme concept. I experienced it as a teenager through my mother trying to deal with my father's alcoholism. I think that shaped my opinion of it (not in a good way).
I can't sign up to the religious aspects of the programme. I fully respect other peoples beliefs and their right to exercise them. It's just not for me. I can see the benefit of a structured programme, but for me the benefit comes from shared experience and a sense of understanding and support that can only come from others struggling with the same issues.
I may be wrong (it has been known) but I don't feel the need for a religious overtone. It's a personal choice and so I think that if it's something that works for you it's definitely worth trying. I think the culture in the US is more open to support groups and therapy than it is here.
It's improved significantly over here, but mental health and the issues surrounding it have only really opened up and started to be discussed in the last 10 years or so. Unfortunately lying doesn't appear to be on anyone's agenda, other than those who are afflicted or affected by it.
I guess we'll just have to make the most of what's available and continue to want to change for the better. I really hope you find the help and support you're looking for. For what it's worth if you ever need to share then feel free to message . I'm happy to help if I can.
