I have a fundamental problem and need help

I have lost the one person I love the most because I was unable to be vulnerable and lied to her about a frivolous thing to accentuate how much i care about her when she just wanted honesty to build back trust.  She believed in my potential and put up with so much and I screwed up all the time because I couldn't stop lying most of the time about dumb little things just so I wouldn' hurt her or or myself. I couldn't stand the thought of of losing her so lied some more.  I need help.

RG, I can 100% relate to what is happening to you. Lying for me became a self protection thing. I lied to keep my self image and self worth intact. In the end, my wife only wanted me to be honest. She felt we could work through anything together but to put my pride in the way meant putting her last.

I have been married for 21 years but maybe only the last few weeks have I been 100% honest. It takes work and is hard to set aside self, but so worth it.

Remember, you are not solving this all at one time. Solve it moment by moment. It is these small moments where we are defined.
