Lupus Warriors Community Group

This group is for people who have lupus or may know someone who has Lupus. I am 26 yrs old and I have SLE. I want to have a place where we can vent, exchange ideas, and give support to each other. I want this group to be home for everyone. We do not judge, but try to bring support to all. If you are newly diagnosed or had it for a long period of time your welcomed.

Does anyone know the proper blood tests to test specifically for lupus? My Rhuemy. Dr had ran several blood tests and she has said 2 xs it has showed . She said she needs it to show again for her to write it down and say i have it. I was just wondering if there was a specific blood test that shows it,as I have to go see her in a few weeks. I know that the docs do many tests in combination to actual call it lupus, but I think the one they might be talking about is called ANA. From what I have been able to understand, the docs look at this test for a kind of guidance and where they go next. I could be totally off with that, but I do know that ANA is one of the tests done to determine lupus. Hope that helped.

Yes it is the ANA that they do but I never heard it has to be positive 3 times to confirm. I know a pos ANA with symptoms is pretty much a definate.
I do know when they diagnosed my Lupus Anticoagulant (Clotting disorder) they needed 2 positive tests to give diagnosis.
My Dr. (Hematologist) one of MANY DOCS, said blood tests dont have to show for Lupus,,,he said "If it walks like a duck, and talks like a duck........"
I hope this helps. I am just starting to read a book on Lupus and if I read any specifics I will share with you!

in sero neg lupus and i,ve never had a positive ana, granted tht my rheumy said only 3-5% of people with lupus have bloods like mine, so diagnosing on an ana result alone is quite unheard off

Hi Donna. I agree with what others have mentioned. The doctors usually take your symptoms plus test results to come up with a diagnosis. I think my dr. did about 6 or 7 different tests. The Mayo Clinic has a great site that describes lupus, symptoms, tests, etc. that might be helpful.
