Loved Ones who support someone with MS Community Group
This group is meant for those who help someone with MS. This would include family, good friends, spouses and caregivers. It is a place to exchange good ideas that may help us in caring for those we love that have this disease.
Combating Micro-organisms + Re-myelination

Standard speel ~ I am not a doctor and am not giving medical advice. I am sharing what we are doing. If you feel any of this pertains to you then you can take the info and discuss it with your doc/NP/PA.
Around 10 years ago my husband was tested for Lyme's disease (a bacteria) as this has to be ruled out before an MS diagnosis as it can affect nerves. The test came back negative. I later read that there is a large chunk of these tests that give false readings, meaning it was very plausible for him to have this bacteria. What would happen if he did have it ie what would docs do about it? Well they would give him 1-3 years of antibiotic treatment (this and stress is what contributed to my IBD) and at the end he still may have the bacteria only with possible GI issues. So I threw up my hands because there was no alternative.
Recently 2 things happened, one a study came out about a plant called Oldenlandia affinis (has anti-microbial properties including helpful in fighting bacteria). The study found that it halted the progression of MS. https://www.uq.edu.au/news/article/2016/04/breakthrough-may-stop-multiple-sclerosis-its-tracks
Two, we found an alternative doc with an MD that uses herbs/probiotics/etc to treat Lymes bacteria and protozoa (per one doc with over 20 MS patients all had this miro-organism and did better after getting rid of it). Basically, taking what we need to help eliminate the bacteria on the chance he has it. This doc has had good results with other MS patients by doing this. We will see if what she gave us plus the above herb can help my husband.
------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
This all begs the question, IF we can find something to halt the disease or slowly help reverse it what can we do to help RE-myelination and therefore reverse symptoms?
1.) A few things to speak to your doctor about are Lion's Mane mushrooms which in Japanese study showed great results.
2.) California study (by Jonah Chan, PhD) using clemastine fumarate(antihistamine) twice a day helped re-myelination.
Let me know your thoughts,

I'll look at that study, but It's interesting you mention Lion's Mane. A friend has recently urged me to give this a try. Thank you for sharing this information!

Usually I get a daily influx of emails on health topics. An article from Dr. Mercola really stood out recently though because it mentioned that fat cells have their own mitochondria. Not only was this the first I'd heard of this, he also mentioned that fat serves a purpose in our metabolism. Another new factoid for me. The bottom line for me was to appreciate that even our fat cells play a...

I just do not feel well and I really think that it's because I cried yesterday on my way to work about my Aunt who is in the hospital. I don't think that we will have her much longer. She is very frail. Now she needs help eating. So, this is the third time in a year that I felt this way after crying. I think crying releases toxins into my body. I also worked up a sweat at the gym...
