I'm 21 and just recently had my first pap smear done. My gynecologist called today and told my my results were abnormal and I tested positive for HPV. She then scheduled me for another pap smear in 6 weeks and that was it. She seemed in a rush and didn't take the time to answer questions. I'm wondering why she's having me wait 6 weeks. For the next 6 weeks I'll be living in fear because I have so many unanswered questions. Has this happened to anyone else?

I worked in a OB/GYN office for 10 years. Patient's have abnormal Pap smears do have to wait to see if the cells go back to normal and if they don't the doctor should do further testing to try to prevent the cells from turning into cancer. It does seem worrisome to wait, but the cells can go back to normal to where no additional testing is necessary.

Hi, this is a very common thing to be diagnosed with. Can be very scary, but most cases go away on their own and others with simple treatment. Good luck
