I am only 2 1/2 months postop with a permanent colostomy. I went into this with a positive attitude, but find that I am having a very difficult time accepting my body image. I do not like going away from home because I feel that everyone is looking at me as a very different person. I actually am having feelings of being repulsed by the fact that I am carrying a pouch full of stool ( I DO keep it emptied, but never feel clean anymore!) Can you help me with these feelings? How long has it been since your surgery, and have you accepted everything you're having to deal with? I know that I should feel blessed because the surgery was my choice, not because I have cancer, but MS-related problems with my bowels. Thanks for listening and, hopefully, being able to offer some encouragement.......
