Growing up and even today I am the type of person that hates confrontation and the thought of someone not liking me consumes me. Because of both of those reasons, I started lying both to avoid potential confrontations but definitely to make myself look better. They started off small and of course they grew bigger over time. I've gotten to the point where I can't stop lying and even when I have every intention of telling the truth, I can't do it. It has gotten to the point where I am almost losing my family and potentially my girlfriend as well. I don't know what to do and I cannot stop it on my own but I know I am ready to stop lying all the time. I am hoping this group will help me as I am able to communicate with others who are farther along than me and help me in reaching my ultimate goal of stopping to lie.

This group will help you. I have found this group to be very supportive. We all have this affliction, and for very similar and not so similar reasons.

I'm a liar too. But recovering, thanks to admitting to the problem (like you have here), and wanting to do something about it.

Read, read, read this board. There's a lot of good insight.

Recovery is a tough road, but worth it. You're not alone

Lolchris, Welcome to the site. The first step is after all admitting to your problem and admitting you have no control. We are all here because we lie. Lying was a coping mechanism for me for similar reasons. Wanting to be liked, perfect, in control, ..... Learn to love yourself for who you are with all your personal defects and imperfections. You cannot change the past but you do have control over where you choose to go. Like wise the past does not dictate your future course. Take one day at a time. Take advantage of the daily check in and do so to keep yourself grounded. Remember YOU are enough. You do not need to be anyone different. Once you truly accept this and walk the path of being true to yourself it actually becomes very uncomfortable to lie. It does not happen overnight and you will falter. Stay committed and forgive yourself. I am Michael and I too am a recovering liar.

you lie because of a deep rooted issue usually stemming from lack of trust.

then you lie and kill indirectly with your lies, which is a crime, because you develop a lack of compassion for your victims, and a sense of urgent inferiority which you cover up with the euphoria of seeing or sensing the devestation of your victim.

there is a great site called the national...oh what diff does it make really. we lie and we lie and who cares if we lose, if we lose, we win, as it says in raging bull.

anyhow if you develop a being that is greater than your need to see someone else one down, and i mean that, i think that is the start of compassion.

meanwhile, i now have every hater in the book, and i mean that stalking me on this board.

just as i predicted so many months ago.

yeah, hi julie and mike........haters got to hate right? and your freedom to hate and stalk me?????

why don't you two go join up somewhere and leave me in peace? or is it that you can't stop???
