Hi there,
I have had a hard time dealing with lying since I was a teenager. I've struggled with self esteem , and found I "need" to lie to gain acceptance from others. I've also lied to cover up my shortcomings in life. My lies were small exaggerations , but became bigger and bolder as time went on. I recently started having flashbacks or some kind of crisis where I've realized that I am a liar. The stress of a toxic work environment accompanied by my self thoughts of my lies has made me a hermit. I'm scared to go out and have a fraction of the confidence I used to have. I've been put on anti depressants and now feel even more empty. I want to let go of this so I can move on with my amazing wife.
Thanks for listening.

Is your wife understanding with this?

My wife doesn't judge me at all and fully supports me. I can't forgive myself or stop worrying about the lies I've told in public.

Literally I went from an extreme extrovert who helped tons of people to a hermit with no self esteem at all.

I'm in a support group for depression and anxiety where we do a sharing circle, and tomorrow I'm tempted to let all my lies out.

Don't feel you have tolet everything out at once. Healing & correcting behaviors takes time. Do not overwhelm yourself with doing everything at once, but only tackle how much you think you can in one day. Maybe even set up nightly discussions with your wife about your day, or on certain topics.

Thanks for the advice. My wife accepts me, but I can't accept myself. Im going through a major depressive episode and social anxious as hell. I 'm at a loss.

Have you tried anxiety meds, or meditation? I have to do that because of different things, they do help a bit. The strength has to come from within though.

My wife doesn't accept me and sys she can't e with me anymore because I have destroyed her soul with my lies. You are lucky boundtoreboun that your wife is supportive... I have tried anxiety meds and I was told they were helpful for me but I didn't see anything other than they made me sleepy. I only gave them 2 months I wish I had given them longer maybe then I wouldn't be facing divorce or looking for a new job, and losing my house.
