Liars Anonymous Community Group
A support group to provide those with a compulsive addiction to lie a place to share hope, strength and courage with others like them; solve our common problem and help others with a compulsion to lie. We aren't alone!
Welcome to the group - number one thing - you aren't alone. Lying is a horrible addiction and you can read through the posts and see that many of us are in the same exact position. Lying for more years than we can count and hurting those around us. I've been doing it since I was a kid and it has destroyed so many relationships and jobs and friends..and most recently almost my marriage. But you have made the biggest 1st step. You have outloud stated that you have a problem. Now the time is to follow through on your commitment. As most of us have found..prayer is a very important part of this..admittance, looking at ourselves in the mirror and asking is it worth it? and why am I doing it. Most importantly remember that stopping this is not going to happen over night. Take it day by day and know you have a place to vent and get it all out. Stay strong!
You have completed the toughest step and that is admittance of your issue. What I have learned in dealing with my issue is that when I lie its a choice and I have decided to choose not to lie. Its very difficult when you have grown accustomed to lying. Allow God to work in your life by surrendering this issue to Him. We cannot fight this battle alone. You are better than the lies you tell and you can beat this addiction. Joining this group has been awesome for me. Its great to see that I have support from people who struggle with my same issues. Hang in there and be encouraged!!!
Thank you, it is comforting knowing I have a community I can talk to and seek help from. I feel like in the past, I have been too embarrassed to try seeking help for this issue. But that was really just me hiding from it, and you are right that owning up to it feels... good. Especially knowing I have people here that will listen to my plights and not judge me. Good advice about taking this a day at a time. I want so desperately to "be better" and prevent the lying urge altogether. But I think being mindful that it isn't an instant fix and that living truthfully will take time will be very helpful.
DonewithLying,
Thank you for the response and the kind words. I know that lying is awful and ugly, but it give me hope that open communication can occur in this group with judgment free and helpful responses. You are right, I have tried fighting this battle alone and it has not worked out well for me.
