Just joined the group today. Realized I need to do something to fix myself. I have a problem with lying, mainly to my wife but also friends and other family members. The lies are never anything big, just dumb stuff. The lie that has caused me to seek some help happened this weekend. My wife was out of town, and I had two parties to go to. Party A was a Derby Party, and party B was a graduation party for a cousin. The plan was for me to go to both partied, as I could spend an up to two hours at party A. Well, I decided that I wanted to stay at party A, and just skip out on party B. To do this I told my wife that I had a couple drinks at party A, and passed out. Obviously, she didnt buy the lie from the get go. But, I kept it going for a while. Until I just told her that it was a lie. She is devestated, and since this is just another lie she has caught me in, is contemplating leaving. Other things I've lied about would be keeping our account balance from her when it got too low, saying I worked on things around the house but wasnt able to complete the jobs. Just lies about really mundane things, that dont call for lying about. My realization yesterday was that I make the dumb choice to lie to possibly skirt any reprocutions that could come from the truth. And, being caught in the lie is ALWAYS so much worse than anything I can imagine from telling the truth. I need to change my ways, and I hope that this first step will get me somewhere. I dont want to lose my wife, and I want to be a better person.
